The Tattooist of Auschwitz, by Heather Morris

The Tattooist of Auschwitz has been very widely publicised and reviewed, a fact which is interesting in itself.  Why, when there are so many books about the Holocaust, has this particular one engaged public attention?  I think it is because it is an Auschwitz made palatable.  This is a sample from an un-named reviewer at a site called Weekend Notes:

I found The Tattooist of Auschwitz to be unlike many other accounts of the holocaust which are, by necessity, bleak, sombre or grim and where it can be sometimes difficult to connect with the characters. In contrast, this account had the opposite effect on me. I was charmed by Lale immediately and found this book incredibly heart-warming in its optimism and humanity.
